Ok, don't report every damn post someone down voted you just because you don't know why. I'm talking about people ABUSING the down vote. People accidentally down vote things. If you go to their profile and they've down voted every reply or they are obviously just trying to ruin someones reputation, then you can report it, but our moderators are way to busy to go hunting down why someone down voted your post you thought was helpful. Reply to the thread and ask or PM the person if you really have a legitimate gripe.

If you are someone who regularly just gives people the [ rules ] or just looks for people asking for their homework done so you can tell them we don't do peoples homework, then of course you're going to get voted down. We're here to help people. Just don't reply to people who want their homework done for them. Or if you do, realize you might get a down vote, so make sure you provide some helpful replies in other threads to offset that.

The "Reputation Given/Received" in your profile now links directly to the post that rep was given for. (Instead of just the thread)

Cool addition. I really like this new system. I didn't think it possible, but DIC is getting better and better by the day.

So, do we get rollover downvotes? Like, I have 5 per day (because I'm a bitter, old, curmudgeon)... if I only use 2 of them today, do I have 8 for tomorrow? Can we be AT&T instead of Verizon?

LOL. I was literally just thinking that someone was bound to ask that no more than 5 minutes ago... and here you are.

Nope, no rollover down-votes :)

So here's what I'd like to propose, because I honestly see some value in having reputation available in the off-topic areas of the site as I think interesting, witty, and intelligent posts should be voted up, and dumb, insulting, and trolling posts should be voted down... I would like to keep the reputation in the lounge and other off-topic areas for the time being, although I have not completely ruled out disabling them in those areas.

Instead, I would like to put a daily limit on the number of down votes anyone can give. Here are my proposed values:

New Members (Members with less than 10 posts): 2 Down Votes/day, 10 Up Votes/day
Members (Members with more than 10 posts, but no special badge): 3 Down Votes/Day, 15 Up Votes/Day
Contributors & Authors & Any DIC++ Member: 5 Down Votes/Day, 25 Up Votes/Day
Experts/Mentors/Admins/Mods: 10 Down Votes/Day, 50 Up Votes/Day

This would prevent new members, or any member with a grudge from completely destroying someones reputation single handedly. It would not however stop someone who is trolling, insulting, being dumb, or just plain posting crap from losing all their reputation from multiple members who choose to down vote them.

Thoughts???

Oh, and Alumni only get 5 down votes/day because they are bitter, old, curmudgeons that would down vote a picture of their own mother given the chance.

;)

This seems good. The numbers could always be tweaked, but the general tier based system seems like a step in the right direction.

Could be a good thing, but people are stingy with the +s and generous with the -s. I can see this eliminating some posts, it already has me thinking I'm not going to waste any effort posting. Took me 2 years to get 15 pts and all of 5 minutes to lose 1/3 of it. I don't post fluff, but I try to post relevant comments. If you don't agree, feel free to post, don't just hit the fuckin - button because you don't like me or what I said.

You're using the wrong tone in your post if you're trying to seem anywhere near innocent.

I've reset your rep to 0 as I agree jcreameans11 abused the down rep.

Right now, we can give bad/positive reputation to guests. I don't know if that's a big problem, but a script which does not allow us to give reputation to guests would be nice :)
