Need a good start!

Posted 24 February 2010 - 12:38 AM

Hello!

I am a atudent, just started with programming... (Yeah, not a hint of programming backgroung).

I am learning Java and I am really confused about which book to follow. Some books i have refered say that they have assumed that the reader has a little background of programming, but i dont.

Please help me select a good book!

Something along the lines of Java for dummies would be a good start. That sort of book eases you in gently, I know how difficult it is to find sources that talk to you in a human way; sometimes you just need it spelling out rather than being clouded in techie-ness!

I have heard nothing but praise about the book "Killer Game Programming in Java"

But it is designed for people who have 'some' Java behind them, so perhaps after you've finished your first semester or so. Until then I can always recommend tutorials on the internet (Including the D.I.C tutorials section) as opposed to buying a book that will become obsolete to you after a few months of programming.
