Hi guys, here it is: I have two 80GB hard drives. Before, the partitions were arranged as follow because I had a dual boot system:
Disk 1:
40GB ext3
5GB swap
35GB (unassigned)
Disk 2:
40GB ext3 (Linux Ubuntu 8.10)
40GB NTFS (Windows XP Professional SP2)
I decided to arrange them so it would look like:
Disk 1:
75GB ext3 (Linux Ubunto 8.10)
5GB swap
Disk 2:
80GB NTFS (Windows XP Professional SP2)
I inserted my Linux live CD and ran GParted. Since Linux was installed first, I edited the /boot/grub/menu.lst file BEFORE proceeding to the re-arrangement and it worked fine. Now, I cannot boot into Windows anymore. It says "NTLDR not found, press any key to restart.".
A possible cause would be that I changed the partition arrangement on the drive containing Windows, but no matter how I fiddle with the numbers in G:\boot.ini, it won't work.
Any advice on that? The fixmbr and fixboot commands of the recovery console didn't solve it, and when I insert my Windows XP setup CD and want to put it on the NTFS partition, it says "however, this disk does not contain a windows xp compatible partition".
Is my partition corrput? Waiting for your ideas.

From TinyEmpire.com :
Sounds totally do-able.
I would venture to guess that either the file permissions are not correct & the file is no longer beeing seen as a system file, or the file was somehow erased.

2. If you have a working Windows machine download my fix: Floppy fixntldr.exe | CD-R fixntldriso.zip | USB ntldrusb.zip onto a working computer (Backup copies of these files available at http://ntldrismissing.com )
Sounds totally do-able.

Thanks for the fast reply. However, the boot disk created by this tool did not detect my Windows installation. I found out that GParted included in Ubuntu 8.10 seems to have corrupted my partition table, forcing me to install windows on the other hard drive then recreate the partition table using PartitionMagic. I did quite a lot of operations with that tool, so I must have gone wrong somewhere, but now all works fine!
