So I would like to get a list of the current environment variable into an editor so that I can add them to the system environment....
So I type:
set > vars.txt
and I get back: access denied.
WTF How can I be denied access! Who in the *&$^%# says I don't have the rights to create a text file!
Well... its probably simple, I don't know what I am doing under windows 7 (after all I have only had it for like 3 hours).
Anyone want to point me in the right direction here? I don't like being told I can't do something.
In the mean time I will try switching to another directory (EVEN THOUGH THIS IS THE *&^$%&*$*&#$*%$^ DIRECTORY WHERE I WANT THE *$*^@()*$# FILE).

YOu have GOT to be kidding me. Why can't Microsoft just have a su command or a sudo command?
What kind of crap is an "Administrator console"? &$^#%@#*&$%^%$(#$&!!!!
Well I guess I am learning.
From what I can tell from here its about a 35 step process but one can actually take ownership of a directory. Though it would be easier to just go though the GUI.
I bet system admins just love windows 7 -- mean while I am beginning to hate it already.

I just want to run my compiler from an editor... its not hard under windows XP -- you set a couple of environment variables and tada. Windows 7 has me jumping though hoops and crawling under and over and round and round...

If you get it to work, you should make a tutorial about it. Well if you have time.
A tutorial would help keep others from throwing their computers out the window.

Click on the Orb, under search type cmd & then when cmd magically appears in the start menu, right click & run as administrator.
Under the default user, the cmd prompt doesn't even allow a user to view Windows XP drivers (attached as USB). I am constantly using the administrator command console anytime I'm using Windows 7.
explorer .

Just keep reminding yourself that Windows is User Friendly & that Linux/Unix is for advanced users.
At some point I think the two crossed into each others parallel universe.

Indeed... actually I cheated though, I went in the GUI and just opened up permissions on the directory. I figured if I have to get into the GUI to open the administrator console I might as well just pop in to explorer and modify the permissions. As no2pencil points out -- just typing: explorer . will pop you right to the window you need. (actually since I needed: explorer .. -- but close enough for government work.
I really should learn how to use the console -- most of my knowledge was relevant back in the days of DOS 3.1 and Windows 98... I got by in XP, have never even touched a vista computer and now I am at windows 7 and things are different...
Good news though is the all of my compilers are setup again
