my DVD combo drive has started to really heat up CD"s much much more than it normally did, the access time has increased, so has the ejection time. cleaning the lens using lens cleaner (CD) didnt help. still overheats and really gets hot (the body too). even new CD's are accessed for too long.
what could be the problem ?
my CD's are really burning now...damn DVD drive

Sounds like worn gears or belt (pending the type of drive). When the turning skips for even one hundredth of a second the data must be read again.
The other option is that the laser reader is not moving at the same speed it used to, and the disc makes multiple passes before the data is read. In either case extra spinning = extra friction/heat.
Cleaning the drive can increase the readability of the laser, but does not fix anything mechanically wrong, which is likely what this is.
I had a similar problem with a cd burner once, and it only lasted another couple of months before it stopped functioning all together. I don't want to be pesemistic, but it sounds like the drive may be on it's way out.

As far as HDD's and CD/DVD Drives go...if something goes wrong...forget about getting them repaired....get a new one.
I've changed my DVD Drive twice....Damn that friction.
