I was thinking about buying one since they are fairly cheap and extremely portable. The laptop I have now is about 5yrs old and is huge; it's basically a desktop (exaggerating). Do you like your netbook? Have any problems with it? What are it's limitations?

I purchased an Asus eee about two years ago for classes and it got the job done.My hands are somewhat big so typing on the keyboard was tedious at times, but that comes with owning a small portable laptop. I purchased a new XPS a couple of months ago and gave the Asus to my Dad (who later regifted it to his girlfriend) and she loves it. If you are only going to use it for surfing, I'd say go for it, but anything more than that I'd purchase a 13" laptop. IMHO.

i have the asus netbook and it nice. its the linux version. it gets a little irritating because it can become pretty slow in just scrolling down a webpage and things like that. but the ~8 hour battery and light weight of it makes up for it. i use it at school to take notes and look at power points and stuff like that. its nice but there are times when you gotta be patient.

i have a 13" xps and love it. when i get a macbook i'm going 13" as well. i don't like big laptops, at a certain point they almost aren't portable anymore. some guy in one of my classes carries around a 17" alienware everyday. overkill.

I actually bought it off of my boss, he gets a brand new laptop and phone every year, also got a storm for 50 bones Very happy with the XPS though

I have a 14" Lenovo ThinkPad. I drag it to work and back everyday. Other than that, I don't take it anywhere. Too much hassle.

From what I've heard the Intel Atom you'll find in most of the cheapy cheap ones is really not a good processor at all. If you're going with a netbook I'd definitely recommend running a Linux distro, or even compiling your own kernel if you know what you're doing, then you could probably get reasonable speeds out of word processing and surfing the net.

do netbooks have problems surfing the net and opening word? cause i thought that was what they were designed for? i've never heard anyone with a netbook say they had problems in those areas, only when they tried to stretch it from those basic functions.

i mean fuck, i can do those things on my phone, why would i lug around a netbook if it had problems doing those things?

I have a 19" dell that I lug around when I really need it...but my phone seems to handle most things anyway.

Way too much. I would consider it overkill but I'm currently lacking a desktop, so I instead have what looks like a desktop with a monitor attached to it.

My eee had Linux on it originally, then I got a copy of Xp from the school. Booted and ran fast as hell on Xandros, XP was a little slower but made the day to day class stuff more streamline.
