Beware of IE7

Posted 23 May 2006 - 08:57 AM

Just in case any of you are planning to try out the new IE7 and do any online banking (i.e. with Wells Fargo). IE7 is not a supported browser.

I've also noticed a lot of rendering issues with content on mainstream sites (i.e. my beloved ESPN.com).

IE7 is pretty nice but still has a ways to go before it is actually my browser of choice.

are you using beta 1 or 2? there are a lot of issues with the first one, like frame targets, javascript and well any other scripts. Beta 2 supports most of these and the next upgrade should iron out the rest of the issues :)

I'm running the last build we can get on campus right now, and I'm still seeing issues with rendering on specifically ESPN's MLB scoreboard. Also, I've noticed a lot of the drop down menus don't like to line up and some hot spots on pages are not lined up where they should be. :)

It's only a beta...

So far i really like what i am seeing. IE7 will probably be my browser of choice once its finished. I haven't seen too many things wrong with it so far, but i definitly dont like how you cant move the toolbars around, but thats just a small price to pay.

I've been faithful to IE for many years, but I have recently been using FireFox.

IE7 is looking great and yes it is a beta. I'm not passing judgement yet. I was just warning if you run the beta you might not be able to do online banking with Wells Fargo.

I think this is less about the browser and more about Wells Fargo using some sort of javascript detection to only allow certain browsers?!

BINGO!!

I ran into the problem and it really got under my skin. Just thought I would share my experience so no one else needs to share in my pain of uninstalled IE7.

I use firefox as my default browser, but in the sprite of open-mindedness, I have been testing out ie7 beta 2. I have done online banking with it a us bank and had no problems. The only problems I have is my companies (BEA Systems) seible web portal. when loading InWeb profiles it crashes.

Sobs at microsoft... they leech everthing they can, don't they. Mac-style glossy presentation and tabbed browsing. I hope they all go to hell for this.

Someone's gotta make top dollar for this stuff, so why not us. :)

Here is an example of another way MS will bully people into buying Vista. Have you recently installed Windows XP w/SP2? For some odd reason it asks you if you want to get the latest install files (supposedly these "updated" files will include all of the patches), but as soon as you are done installing and go to the Windows Update site you discover that you have about 47 new critical updates to install. Well, on June 13th 16 more will be tacked on to that number. MS has no plans to release a service pack, so if you don't want to have to go through that crap everytime you install XP you will have to buy Vista which will have about 8 different versions I believe. I can't wait!

I like the fonts and style much better in FF, IE7 seems to make them blurry, but that could just be me.
