Wireless modem/dongle

Posted 31 March 2010 - 05:13 AM

hi

I have a laptop and a wireless HSPA USB stick, which gives me wireless internet on the move. The software on the stick is of the type Windows binary executable, AutoRun.exe to be precise. I'm trying to get it to work on my Linux/Ubuntu OS only from a previous post I know that Win compiled binary executable s don't work with Linux.

So, i decide to take this approach. Now, I'm at the shell in Ubuntu (see screen shot), and I try to switch to root user (with the command 'su'), the OS asks me for authentication so I use my password which i log in with, thinking i am the super user i.e. 'root' but authentication fails?

What's happening?

help please

You can use sudo <command> & sudo will prompt you for your password.

Most likely if you did the install but never set an administrator password for root, then the su password will be blank, just hit enter.

I'll give that a try at some point #2, thanks.

I tried hitting enter, but still get an 'authentication failed' message.

apologies for the late response.
