Found this interested article about Microsoft and their MVP awards. Reading some of the comments to the article as well and you get an idea at how the community views an MVP. It's definitely worth a read.

Ya an MVP doesn't count for a thing for me. Just like any other badge or title it's what you bring forward when someone asks a question. It's easier to see people with skill in there respective fields when they put forth something of use. This site for example recognizes contributions and helpful members with badges but doesn't mean (at least in my head) that they are experts in their respective field. A title shouldn't be reflective of ability.
