Date Error

Posted 12 April 2010 - 08:04 AM

My Laptop date keeps on changing itself to 2002/04/12. The current month and date remain correct, but the year keeps on going back to 2002. I've tried to adjust it to the correct year, but after opening some application/programms it goes back all over again.

i've run out of ideas now, please help.

Assuming that this is the Operating System date, can you check the date in the laptop's bios?

If it keeps resetting, then most likely your cmos battery had died. This is what allows the bios to hold configuration data when there is no power.

Thank you for the respond, but the date change while the system is still on. And it only change the year the current date and the month always correct.

I've tried several times changing the date from the bios, but still it does'nt come right. But i highly suspect that my system is infected with the Virus.

Is it possible for the virus to do such a thing? I'm using windows Xp service pack 2

Well because the date changes while the PC is on, then it certainly is not a problem with the CMOS/RTC battery. If it was the RTC battery, then the date would be reset each time you would start the PC and it would change to 1980 or something, not 2002. Therefore, yes, your PC is infected with some virus. You can download Avira Personal Antivirus and scan your whole PC. Hope its is solved that way.
