Thousand files and Dynamic links

Posted 18 April 2010 - 12:58 AM

Scenario: I want to upload 1000 files which are stored in multiple folders which corresponds the category of the said file. I want to make all the files viewable on my website and could be downloaded. The website should allow the list of files to be filtered based on the category or based on the search term you input in the search box.

Any good way to upload multiple files?
Is searching done via tags on the specific file? or by the filename? or something?
How to make those dynamic links?

How to do it all? Any tricks? tips? Comments? Anything?

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

Your host probably already allows ftp or preferably sftp to upload files. Why not use that? If you create a script to do this, there's always the possibility that some one could take advantage of it.

Play around with Apache's <Directory> tag, to init desired/required options for directory which will hold all your files Uploaded through FTP or SFTP.
Then, write a PHP/Python script that reads your directory with files and that can build some interfaces and link files for browsers so users could download them.

You mean there is a way to read what's inside a certain folder and to be posted dynamically(meaning when you add a new file, new link will be added also).

In uploading part, I just want to know some tricks or something that will help me upload... like I say a thousand files. I tried to create a website but the problem is that you can upload by 5 only.

http://extplorer.sourceforge.net/

It sounds like you might be needing a PHP/AJAX file manager? Give google a search for that and see what results you might get.
