How to add more than 1 sidebar in WP?

Posted 25 April 2010 - 06:23 PM

I feel like such a newb, but can't seem to figure out how to add an additional sidebar in the WP admin. I guess the first question would be, is this possible or do I have to hard code it in the php files for the theme? Second question, I don't expect you to give me the code by any means, but any help on where to start (articles, etc.) would be awesome.

Attached image of the WP admin panel for my current theme (the default WP theme if that helps)...

What you have in your theme is a widgetized sidebar. If you want your sidebar to act like the one pictured, you can google adding widgetized sidebars. If you want to hand code it, without admin options, you can do that in your sidebar.php file. If you need links, I can show you some. :)

sodevious put it perfectly. There is a simple function you need to place in your sidebar.php then you will need to modify your css to make room for the sidebar within the theme.
