I got my wife this card, MSI TwinFrozr 1GB OC DDR3 GeForce 250GTS and she just loves it, plays everything she likes to play. Also I would really go for bigger than 500 watts on your PSU.

A quick point - the GTS 250 is a reskinned 9800GTX. A good card, and most of the GTS 250s can be had for under $150.

Over 500w would be good for the future, but above that can get a bit more expensive. If it's an option, the Corsair TX series is very good - also Delta builds. Topower is a server PSU OEM that now makes consumer units. Seasonic does too. FSP Group and PC Power & Cooling make very solid units.

I really suggest getting at least the GTS 250 over the GT 240.

I'm not 100% sold on that statement, I had a 9800GTX and the GTS250 I bought her way out performs the 9800GTX I had, and I mean it's not even close. The card I bought her plays WoW with all settings completely maxed out, and with the 9800GTX I had sometimes COD:MW would get sketchy

Comparing WoW and CoD is not helpful.

WoW depends on your internet connection whereas CoD doesn't as much.

Internet connection has nothing to do with framerate.

Yeah I thought about that after posting it. WoW plays much getter on the card I linked to than it did the 9800GTX I had. One reason she has that card is because I gave her my 9800GTX when I bought a new card and the performance wasn't nearly what it is now.

Feel free to search around about it - Nvidia basically re-badged the 9800GTX stock as the GTS 250 and (in some cases) bumped it to 1GB.

Either way, the GT 240 is very lacking in terms of game play ability. Most new games (even if they are ports...) are going to destroy the GT 240 at reasonable settings. And if it comes down to price, drop the CPU down a little bit - since you aren't overclocking, you don't need the Black Edition CPUs, and upgrade the graphics card.

you may want to look at this:
http://www.anandtech.com/show/2906

and see why 9800GT is my favorite and it is a little slower then 250. 240 have ddr5 on 3.4GHz and your GPU is 1.3GHz i dont think there is any point in that because the GPU is slower then the memory clock and cant handle the information send from it any way. but that is my opinion

No, it dosen't[sic].

If you're playing WoW and lose connection, your graphics card will continue to provide the same number of frames per second. The connection speed DOES affect how quickly things happen in the game, how quickly your character responds, or how quickly the world reacts. Your GPU will provide the same number of frames per second, you just won't see much changing because nothing new has been sent.

assuming we talk about WoW there the latency have no effect that is why you see ppl running in circle when you lag because the GPU is getting the last position of that textures of that model. generally it dose have effect it is all about how you write your program. it is my opinion any way and how i understand it.

Right, but stating your opinion as fact, when it is not factually correct is misleading at best. When you see people running in circles, you're getting exactly the same frame rates as before. Frame rates have nothing to do with how fast you're getting information from the server or other computers.

The GPU isn't getting the last position slowly, your machine in general is (from the network). The framerate isn't changing, the information you receive is.

but that is because they fill the missing information with the last know position if they dont do that the FPS will drop. the procedure that will calculate this will have to wait to get all the information that is why when the lag get too big you get disconnected. i maybe wrong (nothing new ). anyway lets stay on topic :)
