For your sake, I hope you can run faster than 1200 feet per second. (That's about the average speed of a .22 and shotgun round) If that's not feasible then go with option 2. Don't anger the wife.

Offtopic: Now that I think about it, newer air-rifles/pellet guns can shoot as fast as a .22
