It appears so. One of the reasons open source is valuable is that it exposes poor programmers if you care to look. Closed source means crappy developers can hide their shame.

That said, many open source projects are questionably written but still do very well. For the user, it's the capabilities of the program itself that are important, regardless of how inelegantly it got there.

I downloaded a graphical reporting engine for banner ads. The shit didn't even work. I spent 2 weeks getting it to work & put it behind a better GUI.

The reddit comments are priceless. I like the inversion proportion between coding skills and people skills. Apparently, bad coders need people skills whereas good coders do not.
