I'm now saving up my money for a lappy and I really need you guys to help me clear up what would be good for me.
I want a 15 inch laptop in the 1000 $Can range. I'll use the thing for browsing, coding, playing FPSs like Wolfenstein, unreal 04 and stuff of the kind. I would want something that can multi-task to a decent level.
So far I've looked at the Gateway MX6920 and MX3410.
I really don't know if I should go with a Centrino Duo or Turion X2. I know that AMD makes some really good stuff but i've gotten very good comments on the Centrino too.
What do you think about my choices? Any other machine to suggest?

For a laptop the best processor is the Core Duo. Or I would wait a bit for the Core 2 Duo (stupid name) but great performace per watt for a dual core which == longer battery time, higher clock rates, and a 4 MB L2 cache. The Duo has a 667 Mhz FSB, the 2 Duo is supposed to get a bump up to 1Ghz.
And if you want to game get a decent graphics card with it.

just a note every Gateway laptop we have purchased in the past 2 years had the NIC and modem fry out and they said that it was due to lightning strikes. I was like really lightning can strike inside my store room with them being unplugged and in their bags. $400 for a non covered repair each time. Needless to say we are using HP's now.

and I have 2 on my work bench waiting to get fixed. just so ya know the perticular model #'s are 400 sd4's
we had a problem with solo 2150's blowing their battery packs
However Now that they are headed by the executive board of E-machines and the founder quit they must be making a quality product? (right?)

I'm a Dell whore now I've owned two HP laptops before my dell, they were reliable but had their share of problems.
Dell might not be any better but you can get more bang for the buck. If you look around on http://spoofee.com you could get a wicked deal on a Dell laptop with a coupon code... I think they would ship to Canada, although I'm not sure.

Actually, I'm planning on buying a notebook too...how long would I have to wait to get Core 2 Duo?

If you want to be doing gaming easily, I'd so look for a AMD Turion or even a mobile Sempron. Acer makes some nice notebooks with all decent hardware.

It's an X2 Turion with quiet a bit of nice stuff to go along with it. Look through Newegg.com and TigerDirect.com for other ones.
