Technology is a girl's best friend

Diamonds are no longer a girl's best friend, according to a new U.S. study that found three of four women would prefer a new plasma TV to a diamond necklace.

The survey, commissioned by cable television's Oxygen Network that is owned and operated by women, found the technology gender gap has virtually closed with the majority of women snapping up new technology and using it easily. -Full Story

So this story is a little old but I figure it's intresting. Of course the girls here at </dic> love us some tech-y goodness. But guys, do your wifes/girlfriends/female friends/etc lean toward the geeky side of things?

Well, yes and no...while my better half has wholeheartedly embraced internet transactions (shopping/banking/etc...), enjoys mobile networks and wireless cards, watches the hi tech TVs and whatnot, and loves the VOIP phones, she has yet to fully embrace linux as an operating system, and still tends to glaze over when I broach subjects like efficiency gains though algorithm modifications, cross platform compatability, and any math or physics related material. She then calls me a geek, which is clearly not true, as my mother has often noted that I'm cool! ;)

of course ur cool, ive seen a pic of you in a pirate theme or something.

its pretty nice.. if girls would dig into gadgets then at least a husband / wife would have something in common,

my gf at least digs mobile phones and doesnt call me a geek(at least)

Mine is a gadget lover arts student, so one of my christmas success stories was integrating a pen drive into a plush puppy a couple of years ago:)
Looking at the original article I think the difference is in the quantity: gadgets are on a checklist, and once they are checked, no problem there anymore until they work or don't get seriously outdated. However there is no such thing for jewellery, clothes, and things like that - or at least I have a strong feeling that I could get away much easier buying 4 necklaces, than 4 new computers :)

Much like Amadeus, my wife will use the gadgets that I buy for her or show her how to use internet/shopping/banking. However, she does not embrace them like I do.

My girl likes technology, she is going to school for 3d animation and graphical design, but she is bored by subjects that i love like programming and hardware mods and such.

The Mother-in-law uses the computer for banking, shopping, paying bills, etc.

My Mother can barely check email... no shopping for her.

My little sister (8) is becoming a computer wizz already loves email and games, can use google like a pro

On a totally unrelated note, it appears that the anti-1337 manifesto has gone AWOL.

I'm so sorry, Amadeus.
