Windows 7 Resolution Problem

Posted 10 June 2010 - 07:06 PM

Just recently installed Windows 7 from Windows XP and I cannot seem to find a resolution that fits my screen. I had one that fit just perfect on XP but I tried that on Win7 and it does not work. I have gone through every resolution that they give and none of them seem to fit my screen.

I am using Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

Does anyone know if I need to install some drivers or something to make my screen res work?
PS: Does having a 64bit OS change anything, resolution wise?

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

What is your monitor's resolution?

64 bit shouldn't have anything to do with it

edit: Have you gone through your video card's settings?

Have not gone through my video cards settings. When I press the button on the side of my monitor, think it's called monitor settings, I go to display information and it says DSUB 1920x1080 and I switch the resolution to 1920x1080 and it goes off the screen.

How would I go through my video card settings?

What chipset do you have? nvidia or ATI? Doesn't matter really, both have a "control panel".

With my nvidia:

control Panel->Display->Change Resolution

It should inform you what the native resolution of your monitor is. No drivers should be required. Windows is normally very good at plug n play.

Yeah, I nVidia, but my control panel only has networking. It has nothing with Screen Resolution.

Right Click->nvidia Control panel?

You could try:

Right Click->Properties->Settings->Advanced->Name of Card (back tab)->Start nvidia Control Panel

to see if it'll give you the full range of options and whatnot

if

Right Click->Properties->Settings

won't let you choose the native resolution of your monitor (which is weird)

When I right click on the desktop, there is no button to start the nVidia control panel. I went the advanced setting, there was a button that said look for updates, I clicked it and it says downloading update. We will see what happens.

Wow, I updated the driver software and its fine now.

Thanks for the help :D

Hey guys, sorry I'm posting on this thread again but I have another problem. So I have been uninstalling OS's and re installing OS's all the time lately and I have recently decided to keep Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit. I tried the same approach that I did when I had the issue with 64-bit and it did not work as it said that the drivers were all up-to-date on my graphics card, but I am still having the same resolution problem I did the first time. Can someone please give me some advice on to why my computer always has problems with resolution and how to fix this little dilemma. Thank you for any help.

I think so. Right when I installed it I went to Windows Update and installed all the latest updates. Then I went to device manager and tried to update my nvidia driver from there but it said it was up-to-date. Then I went to my motherboards site and downloaded the Windows 7 chip set drivers and that didn't make a difference either.

I usually don't do my card drivers through any Windows prompt. I head over to nvidia website and DL the right ones.

Uninstalling what you have now and a fresh install of the latest stable driver(s) may be in order.
