Ohio's Great Tragedy

RIP Touchdown Jesus.

Last night we had a pretty bad lightening storm, and our great statue of Jesus in which he is rejoicing an epic touchdown got caught on fire by said lightening. Maybe God was rooting for the other team?

Appearently no one was hurt.

Quote

“It sent goosebumps through my whole body because I am a believer,” said Levi Walsh, 29. “Of all the things that could have been struck, I just think that that would be protected. ... It’s something that’s not supposed to happen, Jesus burning,” he said. “I had to see it with my own eyes.”

“I can’t believe Jesus was struck,” said his brother, who noted the giant Hustler Hollywood sign for the adult store across the street was untouched. “It’s the last thing I expected to happen.”

Well duh. It's completely gone now, though the link I posted in my last post has a pic of what's left of the wire frame. Maybe I'll update my first post with the before and after....

So, um, God has taste? Makes sense. I guess disintegrating all the gaudy crap done in His name is hardly worth the effort, but you can sympathize with the special cases.

Fun fact: The church steeple is usually the highest point in small towns. As a result, lightning strikes seek out churches like tornadoes aim for trailer parks. Well, before they started putting lightning rods on the things.

For Touchdown Jesus, it's pretty much the result of ignoring Christian history. Or, perhaps, just too fugly to exist.

That's what you get for building a statue out of paper mache instead of Slate, granite or limestone (Ohio's natural stone)

Somehow I just picture Jesus up there with a bolt of lighting in one hand and a "oh no you di-int" look on his face as he points at that statue and says "now do it again and don't mess up my nose this time! I'd rather look like the sphynx."
