I think a life changing moment was the first time I moved out of my moms house. I realized theres more to life than being bitched at and being used as a doormat. I also learned that men are stupid and will drop you for a video game. :/

Re: Life changing moments

I'll throw out some experiences that I have had. To be honest, I have had a rather interesting life that most people, except for those closest to me, don't know much about.

The first would be soon after I graduated from high school. After being hospitalized for awhile and having many, many tests performed, it was found that I have liver disease and would be required to have a transplant sometime in the future (still haven't had it yet, on the list though). That was definitely life changing. Being only 18 years old, I figured I was a normal young adult but knew that I wouldn't be able to live like everyone else my own age.

The second would be what happened about 4-5 months ago. I had been laid off and was staying at my parent's house with my puppy and relaxing at about lunch time. My parents had literally only been gone about 2-3 minutes when the doorbell rang. Not expecting anybody, I figured it was just UPS dropping a package off or something and decided not to answer the door. A minute or so later, out of nowhere I hear a loud crash upstairs and my dog runs upstairs and starts barking and freaking out, so I decide to slowly go upstairs and check out what happened. I really wasn't expecting anything much, I thought some kids or something had been playing outside and maybe hit the house with a baseball or something. I get to the middle floor of the house when all of a sudden a guy runs out of my parent's room (which is upstairs on the top floor, so he is on the ledge above me) with my mother's jewelry box. I run upstairs to block his path and try to tackle him, but all of a sudden I see him reach into his jacket and pull something out. (Mind you, I am in just basketball shorts and for all I knew he could be pulling a gun out) Next thing I know, he has some device in his hand and pulls the little trigger on it, releasing pepper spray all over me and into my face (if anyone has ever been pepper sprayed, it burns like hell, especially in your eyes and bare skin). I stumble back down the stairs and make it around the corner trying to overcome the burning and the burglar makes it downstairs, but luckily the front door was locked and he could not open it, so he ends up dropping the entire jewelry box on the floor to get it open. He runs out and I finally am able to open my eyes and run outside after him, but he had somebody waiting outside in a car which he jumps into and it drives away. The bad thing was I still couldn't see completely clear and didn't get any license plate or anything.

That definitely put some perspective into my life. Made me realize how I really am vulnerable to any sort of thing that happens into this world.

This thread should have been called "Does your life suck more than mine?? (Rhetorical question)".

Moved out at 15. Probably doesn't sound half as exciting as the rest of the stories on here but I'll tell you, lots of shit you learn first hand.

Pack a bag and walk out the door. You're not a missing person until someone misses you.

Emancipation. Barring that, you physically walk out the door.
