Posted 07 July 2010 - 05:32 AM

hmm im a software devloper and delving to web development and somewhat new . I learned html / css already. but my question is . im a having a hard time implementing css designs/layout since im not really artistic person. id rather solve difficult algorithms than solving css problems. and now the question is , i am aiming to learn PHP , thats why i am learning html/css . do i really need wield css mastery to be efficient in PHP/mysql environment? i know css . i can understand the code 100%. but the problem is im not that creative/imaginative when it comes to artistic design.is it ok to learn already php? any suggestions comments . thanks

PHP as such has nothing to do with CSS, besides that you can use PHP to create CSS code. The main usage of PHP is to put all parts of a website together (roughly spoken).

so-to-speak, it _is_ ok for you to learn any server-side language you want.

PS. I’m not an artistic designer myself, but that didn’t prevent me from diving into PHP.

let me ask you this: do you need CSS to get data from a MySQL (or any other) database? do you need graphic arts to design a PHP programme or class? do you need deep HTML knowledge for doing server-side form validation?

I'm with Dormilich here. You can work with PHP for an entire project and never need to touch CSS. That's why you have designers.

To qualify, I have no design skills whatsoever, and I hate working with CSS. However, I do just fine with PHP.

Not only can you never touch CSS with PHP, but you don't need to know HTML either! In the code below there is no HTML or CSS. That's all in the html files, which you can leave up to the designer.
<?php
$tags = array("PHPUSERNAME", "PHPOTHERTAG");
include("headers.html");
$replacements = array("Joe User", "Other info about Joe");
$body = file_get_contents("body.html");
$body = str_replace($tags, $replacements, $body);
echo $body;
include("footers.html");
?>
