Need Guidance

Hi, am new to programming and want to learn C/C++. i am very much interested in programming contests but i don't know where to start from. what books should i follow for algorithm & programming? Guide me Please.

The first thing to do is to get comfortable with the language, learn all the basic constructs so that you can use C++ as a tool to solve a given problem, such as implementing an algorythm. There are many tutorials that teach C and C++, and it depends on what your leaning style is to how you will learn the best. A good idea might be to read this tutorial and watch a video series like this one, these will give you a good start in C++, although, there are obviously many more resources you will use in the future.
