I tried to install Ubuntu 10.4 yesterday. Half way through the setup i got an error saying that the disk was corrupted. I had a Ubuntu 9.10 diak ao I tried to install that, which worked. The problem was with the wi-fi. I tried to go into "Hardware Drivers" and find the drivers for the wi-fi card. It didn't work. I put in the 10.4 disk and went to "Hardware Drivers" and it worked. I updated Ubuntu 9.10 and restarted my computer. When it booted the wi-fi wasn't working again. So I tried the disk thing again and I get this error: SystemError: E:Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.
The computer that I have is a Dell Inspiron 1525. I hope that you guys can help find a solution to this problem. Thanks in advance.

Looks like a pretty common problem on that laptop. I found the following
here on ubuntu forums
The second page also has a note on the kernel version, so be sure to check that out

Here's what to do:
1. Open up System > Administration > Restricted Drivers Manager
2. Under the firmware category, you will see something to do with a Broadcom driver. Check that box.
3. You will be prompted to either get the firmware from a disk, or to download it. The site to download it from is given for me. Select it, and the wireless card should work!

9.10 was really bad on my computer wifi-wise, but 10.04 always worked. However, it sounds like you are missing files. Boot onto the 10.04 disk and select "Check for broken/missing packages" (away from linux atm, so it's something like that). That should tell you if its a bad CD or not.
