What is the best language to use for my Browser Based Game

Posted 12 July 2010 - 08:47 PM

I have decided to make a Online Cricket Management Game and I was wondering, what language would be best for this type of game.

I want the online game to have a Live Text Commentary feature so that managers can follow as the matches are being played.

The results of the match will be calculated and stored in a database. Then I want to display the results to the user to make it look like the game is being played live. Something like this:

Ball 1: 2 Runs Scored

30 seconds later...

Ball 1: 2 Runs Scored
Ball 2: Dot Ball

Another 30 seconds later...

Ball 1: 2 Runs Scored
Ball 2: Dot Ball
Ball 3: 1 Run Scored

And so on...

What is the best language to use for this?

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

There is no "best" language.

You'll form technical requirements, evaluate business and people constraints (for example, what do you know), and then make a choice. Good old fashioned decision making.

So to talk about that online game. Is it online as in browser based, or are people going to be downloading a separate program to play the game?

What is your programming experience? What do you know?

What research have you done so far? What ideas do you have? What conclusions have you reached? Do you have any confusions about the material you found on Google? What confusing points did you run across in your research?

He put that it was a Browser project right in the title :)

You'll want to form the website with basic HTML and PHP first. Don't worry about live updates, try to get it working by manually updating the page first. Once you have the page changing content on a manual refresh, look up and learn AJAX, which will use Javascript to help you do the live updating.
