Setting up to receive email @mydomain.com

Posted 21 July 2010 - 03:16 PM

I registered a domain from godaddy for my lam server that i configured on a separate machine and was wondering how could i set it up to receive email on [email protected]? now i know I could just go ahead and buy and email address from godaddy but what if i wanted to do it myself? I'm running on debian if it matters. I'm not looking for a spoonfeed but a couple of links or keywords to look up on google would be awesome.

One way you could do this is by setting up a mail server on your network and configure the dns to point to your server's ip. But if you want an easier way of doing this, use google apps to manage your email to your domain and just connect thunderbird or some other client to google's mail host.

You need to setup DNS, as suggested, & then point the nameserver addresses in your GoDaddy control panel to the DNS service. Then you'll need to setup cname & mx records. Check out this basic dns guide.
