Compatibility issues?

Posted 23 July 2010 - 06:09 PM

I recently built a new system that is running Intel's i5-750, Gigabyte P55 chipset motherboard, and 4gb of DDR3. I am also running Radeon HD 5770(x2) in Crossfire. I reinstalled Windows XP 32-bit, and it has been extremely buggy. I had problems installing all the chipset drivers, the computer kept freezing mid-installation. Whenever the computer boots, it takes about 1-2 minutes after boot to un-freeze and play the Windows login sound. I started up ARMA 2 and the game is running extremely glitchy. All drivers are updated to their newest releases, but the system appears very unstable. I have been out of the hardware side of things for awhile, and was wondering if my issue is related to running an x86 OS on x64 hardware? I am planning on upgrading to Windows 7 Premium, but I am trying to figure out if my stability issues are related to the current Operating System. I appreciate any help with this, just want to get my new system running smoothly.

x64 hardware? What exactly do you have that's x64 only?

EDIT: You have 64 bit CPU but that's not causing your issue (Most CPU's nowadays are 64 bit CPU's)

I was reading that the Intel i5-750 is a 64-bit processor, could this cause issues when running 32-bit Windows XP?

Nope, most CPU's nowadays are 64 bit CPU's. Hell I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit with my 64 bit CPU

Well that at least narrows down my problem, I might just have to wipe the system and go through the re-install process again.
