Drivers?
Posted 24 July 2010 - 11:28 PM
I have downloaded and installed the Driver Whiz, and i have a lot of drivers that are out of date. I have searched all over online for the drivers, and i can't find them anywhere, even on the manufacturers' official sites. Does anybody have info on how to get these?

POPULAR
TO GET WHAT?
What is the model number of the device that you are trying to find drivers for?
What is the serial number of the device that you are trying to find drivers for?
Who manufactures the device?
If you want drivers Oh I can give you drivers! I have 500megs of drivers on floppy's from all my old 486 stuff!
Plus, just because your driver is out of date does not mean that you have to update it. If it works then leave it alone.

You should never use drivers for a device that are not offered by the manufacturer... most free driver download sites are an ad service, a pay service, a combination of the two, or malware/spyware farm.
Just like Calvin pointed out, it's really really difficult to help you without knowing the specific hardware in question. I see a pattern forming with your questions...

hm... i thought I put it in the title. sorry about that. My driver actually doesn't work correctly. it goes to a DVD/CD R/W drive, and it doesn't even recognize dvd's. the model is Matshita UJDA720 DVD/CDRW.
The Serial Number is 2bcea006807

Are you saying that the BIOS doesn't see the drive? The Driver doesn't "see" anything. It's data that the OS uses to communicate with the firmware. No driver in the world will fix a dead device
Many years ago I owned a Matshita SCSI CD Writer. It was this device that taught me to never buy hardware with the word "shit" right in the model name.

My englash is bad, how do you prononce Matshita?

Can you go to your device manager and look at the device property's to see if there are any issues with it?
Or if it even shows up on the device list?
UG! I did a quit google search on your drive and got a bunch of people complaining about the drive

hm... i was able to install linux mint on a partition on this computer, so it isn't that my bios is not recognizing the drive. i am pretty sure that it is just the driver.

NO! Some computers (like my old 486) will boot from a CD even though the BIOS does not LIST the device under BIOS.
Besides, did you check if it shows your myshittya cdrom drive in BIOS?

When you are asking for help, you are not in the position to complain about receiving help. The caps & large font symbolize frustration, which you often cause the people trying to help you.

I want to be able to learn things so that i can use what i learned when i need to.)... sorry.. i will drop it. so yea, what next?

There may be a detection issue from Windows here. A Google search brings up one article, and I think the registry steps listed for XP might help. You probably should reboot after those steps and check device manager if necessary.
Not a guarantee, even though I've actually seen XP misdetect optical drives before, but don't get your hopes up. Just one possible issue.
