Granted we were all there at one stage, and we've all asked a stupid question of two.
Suggestion: Noobs are requested to be members of the forum for a specified amount of time before gaining access to post a question.
Maybe even requested to 'READ THE FORUM RULES'. Would that be too much to ask?
My 2 cents.

What's exactly the point of controlling access to a voice in the forum? To prevent irritating things one reads on the internet? The truth seems that the one post wonders area easy to spot (hell most just use a 'guest' tag) and are of little consequence. The mods do a good job locking posts against the forum rules, and at the end of the day people don't need to answer posts if they don't want to.
Additionally how does one gauge a wilson's reading comprehension of the forum rules? A test perhaps? Something like the old mid 90's video games? "To post a question what is the six word of the third bullet point on the 'read this first'?".

No offense, but with over 250 posts, you still posted this in the lounge? I think I'll move this to Site Feedback before it takes roots.
While we do see a fair amount of useless posting, the team and mentors do a good job of handling them. If you see a post that you feel is inappropriate in some way, feel free to use the report button, and the team will be notified of it.
However, limiting access to the forums isn't a good way to encourage new members to participate in the community, and serves only to drive them away. Regardless of how many times you make some people read the rules, there will still be the "give me the codez" posters.

Yeah, I understand this. My apologies.
When I posted this, it was more to vent rather than detract.
It's more of an opinion post than a question / request as I've noticed there appears to be more and more requests to do other peoples homework or to repeat a simple, multiple requested answer.
This probably stems deeply from my own personal aggressions with having to 'train' my successor. Especially for a position that I've been doing longer than he's been walking so to speak.
What do they train these people to do at Universities?
Anyways.. my apologies again. I'll try to vent in a more appropriate way in future.

As far as I'm concerned, they don't "train" them to do anything. They TEACH them the languages and how to use them.
And BTW, nobody can't teach real-world experience.

Ok. Flamed again. Point taken.
Wrong choice of words.
What do they teach these people at universities?
This gentlemen supposedly graduated with honors and yet can not write a simple FizzBuzz program, in any language.
I almost cried in frustration when he couldn't fathom what modulus was.

It is true we do see a lot of do my homework, recommend me a project, etc. type questions. This goes with the territory of participating in a programming community like DIC. If you see a do my homework post, feel free to reiterate the rules and ask for efforts, or just report the post. With the project idea requests, we do have Martyr2's Project Ideas List in the Share Your Project forum you can link them to. I know sometimes the homework posts can be a little annoying, but the team tries to get to them as fast as we can. And in my opinion, they don't outweigh the quality posts and real questions from members who try to contribute to the community. Just my $0.02.
And I'm sorry you are frustrated in training your successor. I hope he is succeeding you b/c you are moving onto bigger and better things. Good luck!

Hey, my homework is too hard. I know, I'll look out a web forum and ask them what's up with my code.

What's this? Can't post a new topic yet? Post count too low!
Eiding option 1: Fuck that. There are other forums out there.
Eiding option 2: Oh well, I'll just have to hijack another thread then.

I concur with cfoley. The point of this site is to be there for each other to share our knowledge with one anther. If we exclude guests from posting, they will never have their questions answered and will be sent away from this community. I contribute quite a bit (however helpful it may be) in the Java forum and I certainly don't mind sifting through the multitude of guest posts. Yes some violate the rules, but most are great questions. The Mods and Mentors do a fantastic job of closing the threads that aren't beneficial.
