unable to load recovery disk onto new hard drive

Posted 30 July 2010 - 06:28 PM

Hello everyone

I am not a programmer, just merely a frustrated user trying to load a recovery operation system (windows XP) application onto a new hard drive into a Lenovo IBM Think Centre desk top computer. When the program begins the recovery process it tells me that the recovery process failed and a dialogue window pops up with the message, - Debug Assertion failed, program:X\i386\system32\oemwinpe.exe, file:fopen.c line 54 expression:*file!_T('\)

Hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

Ian

First let me welcome you to Dream.In.Code Ian Duval, glad you decided to choose this community to ask your question ;)

Since this forum is for introductions only I'm going to move this to Computer Support & Operating Systems where the proper experts can see it and hopefully help you find a resolution :)

Hi Ian Duval, welcome to dream in code
I have seen similar errors like this, but not for XP, I am a DOS guy :)
I did find this info about your problem:

Thanks for the help, Zoltan.

I don't know squat about Linux, so I thought I'd try what you suggested with the partition. I pulled the laptop hard drive and connected it to my desktop motherboard using the available SATA connectors. Using Disk Management, I saw where there were actually three sections on the hard drive...two of them had the contents of the service partition (rescue and recovery) on it, and the rest was unallocated space.

I deleted the spare partition, and then reformatted the remaining service partition. I was left with one formatted partition with nothing in it and the remaining unallocated space.

I ran Rescue and Recovery again, through all the discs, and to my relief, it actually worked!! XP started, and It is almost finished restoring the applications!!

I can only assume that your suggestion helped, since I was doing the same things I'd been doing each time I tried to restore it.

Thanks again!!!

Referance of were I found the information

I hope that will help you out. Maybe you can find a friend that can connect your hard drive as a USB device so that you can check it's partitions.

Thank you PsychCoder for your welcome and for putting me in the right section for this community forum. I've never been involved in a forum before so hope I have replied in the appropriate way.

And thank you also Andy for your speedy response to my enquiry. I'll find a friend to help me and try out your suggestion with the hard drive.

Ian
