I'm going into final year in a few months and will be developing my final year project until March 2011. I can choose to pick a project from a list in October, but I really would prefer to do something which interests me. However, I am finding it difficult to think up ideas that haven't already been implemented. I heavily use facebook, last.fm, google, evernote and skype so I have been wondering is there anyway I could utilize all of these in one app, or is there a cool feature they are missing? My preferred dev lang is C#/ASP.NET

Well spend the next month using all of them, and if you ever get to a point where you're thinking "This sucks" or "Why can't I do...", then you'll have the answer to your question.

You should check out Martyr2's Mega Project Idea List! There are loads of project ideas (over 150)!

If none of these interest you then I recommend making something functional, something with a real-world purpose. Go around and find problems with your favorite store, the place you work, your school, etc. Then find a way to fix these problems.

This will make for a good project and you can use it in your portfolio to get yourself a job after you graduate!

What I did: I went to the different departments at my school and asked if there was something they did by hand that they would like to be done electronically. The spanish dept said they would love a electronic placement test. So I wrote a progressive test in spanish, in c++ and php. Was pretty good and the dept was thankful.

For me Martyr2's Mega Project Idea List is very helpful. As .Djoser said we've lots of projects there, many of them are pretty simple, so I've combined selected to get a good project.
I've done 3 projects each are super-sets of 3 other simple projects as my first year project.
I think many of them are advanced and can be produced as final year project.
