IE7 RC1: A pushed rollout?

Posted 07 September 2006 - 07:34 PM

I know there's another thread in this forum on IE7, but it mostly was generating comments about the Beta releases. MS is now allowing downloads of their RC1 (Release Candidate 1) version which they say is essentially the finished product sans a few tweaks. Of course they fail to mention the months of security updates that will inevitably follow, but hey, here it is!

My concern was this: when I was installing to conduct site compliance tests, the install resembled more of an SP2 update than an update install (remember going from Ver. 5 to 6?) and was essentially a "hands-off" affair that went uneventfully. There seemed to be a number of security and background file updates, but it gave me no choices along the way. Luckily, my sites behaved well in IE7, although the crazy authorization for the embedded flash elements slowed things a bit. So, is anyone else out there experiencing the same type of install, and has anyone run across a blog discussing how MS plans to roll this out?

Here are some good links if you're interested:

I still remain a staunch FF fan.

Those who know are expecting that even though MS wanted to go straight from this to release that there may be a "golden" version inbetween cause its definitely not all the way there yet.
