Update panel for a queue box

Posted 09 August 2010 - 02:22 PM

I have a web form (aspx page) where I load case data for my database and edit certain fields. I want to create a queue box where I can display new incoming cases (Case nums) that have not been edited yet, so that I do not mis any cases on a given day.

I visualize my queue box to be something like an update panel which updates itself every few minutes and brings the new case nums in the queue box. Please guide on how to accomplish this.

Thank You.

That would work quite well. You can use the UpdatePanel and Ajax Timer control to query the database on a set interval and then refresh the data inside the UpdatePanel.

Give it a try and see what you come up with. We are always here to help if you get stuck or have problems.

Just be aware of the pitfalls of using an Ajax Timer Control within an UpdatePanel.

If the Ajax Timer posts back before the previous request can return you will end up with an UpdatePanel in "always-refresh" mode. (I found this out the hard way)
