Filter 'New Posts' Search

Posted 16 August 2010 - 12:23 PM

Hello,

I was just scrolling through the 'New Posts' like I always do and realized that I don't care about the majority of the topics that were recently updated. In fact, I only care about approximately 5-10 different forums.

I was thinking that maybe you guys could make it possible to hit check boxes either on the 'New Posts' page or make this a configurable option in your Member Profile page. Effectively, checking specific boxes would make it so that either only those forums are shown; or the opposite, only those forums are not shown.

For example, I would check boxes next to: C and C++, Java, C#, PHP, 52 Weeks Of Code, Caffeine Lounge, Corner Cubicle, and Student Campus.

Then only these forums would be shown when I click 'New Posts'. This would take out all the clutter of forums like Databases or VB6 that I frankly don't care about and will never look at.

Thoughts?

Might be a nice feature to have through the user's profile instead of the new posts page. :)

I think it's a good idea myself because at the moment i would not be able to help anyone outside of Java language. and then it would be very nice to have only Java related topics come up and then other things like Student Campus and whatever other forums i like. :D

There is a mod that accomplishes this. I'll look in to how it would integrate with our Sphinx search engine.

On Dream.InCode's homepage there is this Unanswered Programming Topics webpart that does not filter out the closed topics. So when helpers are trying to go through some link, they may run into a closed topic.

So is there a way of fixing this?

@PennyBoki: Agree completely. I think I'm going to merge your topic with another on filtering the New Post Search to keep everything together. :)
