I do agree though that telling others a + is expected isn't going to get you far.

If I were concerned about rep I wouldn't be near the web section I'd be sniping easy posts in C# and VB, but realistically I enjoy working with Web far more at this point and can contribute far more to that area than I would be able to simply rep whoring all over programming topics.
Don't ask what members can do for you, instead ask what you can do for the members and you should start seeing things in a clearer light.

Help is always free and what is paid for is a job. @Autocrat your knowledge is not so cheap that it would go for a few points or anything else. You knowledge is invaluable. Help is invaluable, when in time. I would personally be miffed at someone who helps me and keeps announcing it on a trumpet. Let it go, and you will enjoy the real fun of helping.
Yeah marking down is also demotivating and disappointing, highlighting the areas to improve in a reply might be a better option...

True. Statements like "you are expected to pay me back" are really rude and prove that the person is helping me just to get something in return. In that case I would not press that + button until that thing REALLY helps me a lot. On the other hand I may immediately press - button if it's not so helpful to me.
Plus, I just don't believe much in those reputation points. Most of the time people post their thanks but forget to press that + button. What's important for me is that the guy got his problem fixed.
I can't say anything for your down reps as it may be discouraging for a few who take helping seriously, but don't feel bad for not getting up reputations at least man, this would happen 7 out of 10 times you help someone.

It happens to everyone once in a while with a hit and run. Who did you piss off recently?

I understand you guys and realize my fault that the wording in my sig was not up to the mark but believe me, it is the fifth or sixth wording I have used in this attempt but up to no avail.
I will rather remove it from my signature but I am still not satisfied with the downvoting process. As someone said here, "people should not be slapped for contributing." This is the real problem here.
I never asked for rep ever since I joined DIC. The only purpose of quoting the posts in which I deserved a rep was just to show that people are not voting my posts up, but they are really confident while voting my posts down.
Personally, I think (don't quote me), that the rep system is just a crap.

You never asked for rep however your signature had a message expecting + rep and apparently it was the 5th or 6th attempt at wording it correctly.

I don't think that's a problem at all. If you consider a downvote something like a "slap for contribution" then there is something wrong with your motives for contributing to the community.
A rep vote is very subjective, and if I want to, I can downvote or upvote pretty much any post - maybe I think it is wrong or provides information that has zero value, but at the same time - something could be very useful. Someone else might come and think that something I upvoted is useless, and will vote it down. Same applies to something I downvoted. And he has the right to do that. Why should I be upset about that?
