Limit Bandwidth Speed Per computer?

Posted 04 September 2010 - 02:34 PM

[[ Sorry, I've just c&p'd my question off my Yahoo Anwsers thread. ]]

I've got a problem. A single application seems to take up all our bandwidth speed. I need to limit a computer to a maximum download speed.

I'm a techy type person so willing to do most things.

Additional Details
The problem is a Chieese TV Streaming programm called PPTV. It seems to basicly kill the connection speed of any other computer on our home network.

I would like to limit the speed on the laptop running the software so other computers can still access sites like facebook while PPTV is running. Even if it does make buffering slow.

What you are looking for is bandwidth throttling. It can be solved with low-end Cisco equipment &/or DD-WRT. But your simple, common, everyday, ISP provided router is most likely not going to offer this.

ISP that provide routers such as Netgear, and Zyxel routers, include bandwidth throttling...and allow you a user to user-define high priority programs...
