I work at a little music store in my town. We have one computer and it is hooked up to a Netgear wireless router [it is wireless g and b capable]. My job is to change the SSID [it is something random, but I'm going to change it to our store name] and allow our customers to have free wifi.
The problem is, the security is set at "WPA-PSK [TKIP]". The network is broadcasted but I couldn't connect from my laptop. I am running the newest Ubuntu and it wouldn't connect. I looked it up, and apparently a good amount of laptop NICs do not work with this WPA-PSK [TKIP] security.
Dumbfounded, I asked my boss if it would be okay to change our security to WEP.. explaining that it should be a bit more compatible for our customers.. but I also told her that the security isn't quite as strong.
She said it's okay, as long as she still has her firewall.. so my questions for you all:
1] Should I change it to WEP?
2] The computer at work has a d-link WUA-2340 USB Adapter, will I have to reconfigure this?
3] Will my boss still have this firewall? and all of the "strong" settings she put on it?
ANY additional input would very much be appeciated. I was so stumbled with the whole "WPA-TSK [TKIP]" thing, and how it didn't connect.. I feel that this is my best option.
Thank you very very much,
-FV
EDIT: I am doing all of the changes through http://www.routerlogin.net/start.htm
-which is the Netgear site version of typing in like "192.168.X.X" or whatever.
