So I had this mental image about the Diaspora crew. They were four guys who were tech savvy, had great ideas and were rockstar programmers. The guys from Hackers came to mind.

Anyway, today I found this blog post that shows some of the very amateur mistakes they are making in their code and how it can be easily manipulated by anyone, even a script kiddie.

Here's a link to some discussion from Reddit.

I can't believe this would make errors like this, it's so trivial I'd expect a 2nd year college student to make, not the Rockstars I had in my mind.

My mental image kind of died today. :(

EDIT: Just to be clear, I hope these guys learn from these mistakes and really do keep moving forward - they have a ton of funding and a lot of potential fame to be plucked, they just need to learn from the criticism. They wouldn't have gotten this far if they weren't talented.

WeaponBirth is still working with only minor annoyances. However, I still make lots of horrible design decisions and mistakes even though I've been doing this for 8-9 years. Plus the code is messy, but I'd rather my stuff make it out the door at all.

But the difference between me and then is that my program isn't supposed to be secure or anything, it's an effen video game~ As long as it works my players won't really care.

Yea, it said "cannot find class pubic". I lol'd, but if I was a guy it'd probably hurt my self esteem.

I've always been so lame I can't find programming friends.

I would most likely be working on a project too, if I had programmer friends.

How should I find some?
