An organising device for an unorganized bloke

Posted 03 October 2010 - 03:31 AM

Hello everyone..

I have a BIG problem.. What it is?

Well, im very very unorganised.. I forget all my deadlines, meeting times, the list could go on and on. I am going to 2nd year of my uni and i told myself that this had to stop. I need to be more organised, spend my time for productively and the solution to my problem would be an organiser (like a PDA).

However, when i browsed the web i have found PDA that had browsing web, email checking features and other jazz, but i dont need anything too fancy. No internet connection, no email, no MP3. I just need some device that has a calendar so that i can set my dates. It would beep when i set it to beep at that and that time. It would have a "priorities list" so that i could go and check what most important i have to do. Also a nice feature would be "ticking" - what i have done and whats left to do.

I hope everyone understands what im looking for.. If anyone knows any dvice that falls into category i described then i would appreciate if you could share it here.

Thank you

(Note: i have tried pen and paper - didnt work. Also i dont want to invest into an Iphone)

Have you considered hiring an assistant? ;)

Personally I have an Android phone, which I sync with my Google Calendar, GMail and the task list in Gmail. Don't really need much else to stay organized. (Not that there aren't countless other options, besides the built in Google stuff.)

http://www.google.com/calendar

You can configure it to send your phone an SMS message for event notification.

Also i dont want to invest into an Iphone
Which seems like you know the iPhone will do everything you want. And it will.

A device you don't carry and use and get to understand it's fullest potential is a waste of money.
Walking around with a phone, and a pda, and a camera makes you look like Batman with a utility belt.

Break down and get the iPhone. Or take a serious look at an iPad: Bigger screen real estate, no internet if you don't want it. Or an iPod Touch: iPhone without the phone.

I also would not recommend an iPhone, or any iThing for that matter. The Android counterparts are just as good and you can get them far cheaper. (My Android phone, for example, was ~2.5x cheaper than the iPhone I was comparing it to. And they were pretty evenly matched, feature vise.)

The only thing anybody here can think of is a PDA or iShit/Android? I just use a cheap dayplanner. fits in my pocket, I just write everything down in it, if there are any dates I need to remember it's got a calendar and if there are any phone numbers/etc there's a spot for that too, but I do that after I write everything in the 'bucket' section. total investment- about a dollar, including a few cents for a pen.

You mean... write? Like with a... pen? I... I... Does not... compute!

Sure, if you want to do it analog style then I guess that works to... but where is the fun in that! :)
I actually tried that before I got my Android phone. Was a disaster. Can't read my own handwriting.

I just use google calendar. Can access it from anywhere. Share it with friends and family. When I buy an android it will automagically sync with mah phone. costs me $0.

pretty much any smart phone. i don't understand why you DON'T want an iphone or the like since it obviously does the things you are looking for.

also, whatever smart phone you get (you will get one, they'll be the only kind of phones, eventually) try out www.rememberthemilk.com with it.
