This question always gets a lot of answers...and i'm sure those answers are listed elsewhere here.

When i'm using Windows, I prefer to use Notepad++
When using linux, I use Jed

also, a few of my friends who code in PHP use CodeRun IDE

Why is this question always asked by someone who bolds their question? And why is this question asked over and over and over again? (For the record, I use vim and wish I used emacs)

I use a number of them depending what opens or if I manually open things at the time.

On Windows:
Notepad, Notepad++, and Dreamweaver (code view)
On Linux:
Gedit and VIM

Because I do mostly .NET development, I use Visual Studio for most of my editing, and Firebug for instant style testing in browser.

Notepad++ on Windows. On Linux I am trying out Bluefish, so far it's not bad although there are a few things that annoy me, the most of which seems to be the inability to indent a block of code.Although in fairness I haven't been using it long so maybe I'm missing how to do it.

On Windows when I'm not in a proper IDE it's SciTE, everything else is Emacs for the most part.
