GabehabeSwamp is right. And don't buy that camcorder until you have read this thread and downloaded Spectate Swamp video and desktop search.
We are trying to help you dumb sob's get with the video age. Mpeg video works best with SSDS because that is the format my camcorders had.
I do oodles of video. Hunting Aliens mostly. Here is my method.
When conditions are right. Cloud and sun.
put the camcorder on a tripod
aim it at a cloud with full optical zoom. It is best with sun at your back so the clouds are well lit.
shoot 30 or 40 second clips (maybe 10 or 20) I use my remote to start / stop the recording
off load the camcorder
run SSDS using the GF option to auto catalogue videos in the directory
edit the resultant "videos.txt" using the "rrr" option or notepad changing the "photo " to "photo speed=125 "
Start SSDS again entering the "videos.txt" at prompt #1, p or ww at prompt #2 and "photo" the default at prompt #3
The video is off and running at 1/10 speed.
When I see something I hit "enter" which pauses the video and displays the elapsed time
I enter "." which backs up the video 3 seconds (the ttt5 option at prompt #2 changes the seconds to 5)
If it is something worth noting. I open videos.txt and add the "start==13400" (right next to speed=125) to have the video start a half second before the object (say it appears at 14000 or 14 seconds in)
and add "wait=2.5" to have it play for 2 and 1/2 seconds.
That one is cataloged. and play continues
If I spot another one in the same video. I copy the 2 lines and change the start point and play time if needed.
If there is nothing on the video I change the "photo" to "phooto" so that SSDS will skip it. PHOTO is needed on every video, pic or music file (I usually put it at the start of catalog line 1 for that vid)
It takes a while to go through the videos. They are ready to be archived.
If someone is interested in the video It's easy to show them the cool parts.
photo video01.mpg start==13400 speed=125 wait=2.5 faint and hard to see
xxx.c:\search\video01.mpg
photo video02.mpg start==5000 speed=125 wait=2.5 this is pretty good (9oc to 3 o-clock)
xxx.c:\search\video02.mpg
So that's it. You could be hunting aliens today.

Grep wouldn't stand a chance in a showdown against SSDS. Even if they had old Greppler himself. They would be sunk.
SSDS does random text with large font slowed print. A strip tease of data.
I have ran random political questions. Could just as easily be random email or log file info. Very interesting. Your computer is just sitting there. Use it.
See the changes required to implement the slowed print option. Search for: "03 january 2005" in the source code

Is that program pretty or what.
