The Global Game Jam 2011 is slated for January 28-30, 2011. It is a weekend long event with locations all over the world! It is a great way to get out and make contact with fellow game developers and artists. People who love to make games! I was unable to make last year's Global Game Jam because of an illness. I'm hoping to make this years event. Anybody else hoping to make the trip to one of their local, or not so local, sites?

Yeah I'm going because there is one being held at my college again I couldn't make last years either as I was at the other end of the country.

When I go back up home after college I am going to get in touch with the organisers to try and get on held at the local university as it has a decent game dev course.

They are in my home city again this year at a local university, Carleton Universty, in Ottawa. I'm hoping to make this one. It looks like an excellent opportunity to meet people with similar interests.

That game dev program sounds interesting. I hope you can get into it!

I might have to make a trip up to Canada just for this event. It looks great!

The interesting part is, it is world wide! With locations all over the globe! England, the USA, Canada, Austrailia! You meet in small groups, get to know people with a passion you share and have a blast building a game in 48 hours!

It was in London last year at my college but I wasn't there. This time I am so I'm going. I don't think there will be many fanboy kids lol

I have to admit that it is cool at these events standing there watching people play either what you've worked on (unlikely), or something that you know the people who worked on it (more likely) and they would never guess who is standing behind them.

This isn't a press event like that, it is a 48 hour game development competition. People get together at the jam sites and work for 48 hours straight developing a game. I think I will need a sleeping bag and a crate of red bull

Now that's a mission. Another thing I wouldn't have minded going on when I was younger...

Maybe we should have a dream in code game jam one weekend. Obviously we wouldn't all have to stay up for 48 hours, we could even make it an entire week. We set up some kind of code deposit and have at it

Sounds like a plan. We should be very specific about the allowed languages and tools just to keep the effort in checking everything down.
