Can Windows XP burn an ISO image?

Posted 05 December 2010 - 05:50 PM

OS is Windows XP SP 3. Computer is HP Pavilion m7658n. Trying to burn an ISO image of SQL Server 8 Developer. This is for a DB class. I'm having trouble getting the ISO image to burn. I have run diagnostics and ascertained that my DVD burner is working. I finally found info that told me that XP requires DVD-RAM. (I've never burned a DVD before so I wasn't aware.) I was using DVD+R so it didn't work. If I order DVD-RAM online, does anyone know if I should be able to burn the ISO image then? I found a freeware source for burning ISO images that is stating that Windows XP cannot burn ISO images. Wondering if I should just go ahead an upgrade to Windows 7? (which I do plan on eventually...)

Thanks much!

You would need DVD burning software. By default Windows can copy data files to a CD/DVD, but not ISO files.

The DVD burner That I bought came with software called Nero.
I think that you can buy Nero online (without having to buy a DVD burner)
