In that same vein and due to the crappy weather around here at the time, I did finally see that a parkway was put to it's named use yesterday.

Another observation I've made is that even restaurants with the shittiest of service have started improving due to the recession.
Story 1- So there is this local Italian restaurant we frequented a few years ago. The food was absolutely to die for, but the service was the exact opposite. They didn't give refills, and when they were busy, even told us one time to go to the restaurant down the street so we wouldn't sit and eat their bread and drink their beverages. Finally, my dad got so fed up and complained to the owner (I think the owners' wives were the waitresses), and he responded to just not tip our waitress. The other week, my mom convinced us to go back. After three years, they still remembered us and the first thing our waitress said was "You stayed away for too long. We've made quite a few changes." We got refills, the bread was now homemade garlic bread, and the service was actually decent.
Story 2- There is another local pizza place within walking distance of my house. They're on the low-end of the price scale, so it was something easy to do before I could drive. A few years ago when I went, they overcharged me $1.50 on the fries. I triple-checked the menu, and the price was $1.75. Now it's not the $1.50 that was the big deal, it was the principle of being overcharged. When I asked my waitress, she told me that the price on the bill was the actual price. So I asked to speak to a manager, and it just so happened that one wasn't there. This wasn't the first time they nickled-and-dimed us (ie., no drinks to go, charged for extra seasoning salt, etc). So earlier this year, my brother orders there to go, and my parents make me pick it up since I was going out for lunch anyways. So I told him just to add something for me to the order as well, since I didn't want to run around. They were pretty decent service-wise, so I went back a few more times. One time, the girl there charged me again for extra seasoning salt! I told the manager about it when I went back, and she gave me my money back for that! I had to stop my jaw from dropping.

I made some homemade Chipotle rice (but with brown rice) to eat with my fish, and it was pretty decent, but half way through my dinner I noticed a small brown beetle. I was disappoint. I figured it wasn't anything more than that, but I went to scoop around in the pan to see if I could see anything else, and found a fucking half of a cricket! SON OF A BITCH!!!! I've been fucking eating bugs for dinner. </wrists>
((In case nobody has noticed, I absolutely DETEST bugs.))

@NeoTifa: I can completely empathize with that, as I'm a germaphobe. We were at a a restaurant one time, and a giant cockroach starts crawling up against the wall. At this point, I go into a state of shock. All I could do was jump out of my seat and point. People had to think I was special, until a cook came and used a cup to catch the roach. We never went back again.
