Seems to me that the most obvious thing to do with such a machine would be to rent it out to big business. If it has infinite power and space (and hopefully reliability) you could handle all the server needs of all the big businesses in the world and three thousand years from now your descendants would still have no need to work.

im actually going to defend windows vista; so long as you have 4gb ram, a dual core 2.3 ghz(intel, make it 2.5 for AMD) or better proc, and an geforce 6600 gt GPU or better then it runs quite fast and with reliability ... boot time is still a bitch, no fixing that

I've been running on vista for about a year and a half now and I've had no problems. I have 64 bit with 4 gigs of RAM and a dual core CPU in my laptop. Maybe boot times do suck, but I don't really notice because I hardly ever restart, it just goes to standby when I shut the lid.

I've put some thought into this (no, not really), and the only really practical solution I've come up with is to basically do what google does with the app engine: give people computing power for free up until a certain point and then charge them for it if it goes beyond that point.

An infinitely powerful computer will only be as powerful as its most sophisticated program. To utilize its infinite power will require an infinitely sophisticated program that will take an infinite number of programmers to write for an infinite amount of time.

It it therefore impossible to prove the existence of an infinitely powerful computer even if it is claimed to exist in theory. Plus it will have the potential to drain all the energy in the Universe!

I'll leave you to think about that one. ;)

probably already said, but trying to re-create life by finding the correct combination of amino acids to make a basic protein, and so on.

Best example::
having a watch taken apart, and put it in a bag. Shake the bag until all the pieces form the watch again.

that's a horrible example. the watch didn't come to be, it was assembled. you give the pieces to someone and have them assemble it.

Or maybe all the pieces tossing around the bag will slowly destroy each other.

Holy shit! Metaphor for life!
