Sir,
My computer processing speed has slowed down. When I start the computer, normally when Windows logo appears with 4 square blocks running in rectangular box below logo runs for 4-5 round. But here it rins for around 7-8 rounds.
Also after this comes "CHKDSK verifying files" for each drive,i.e.,C,D,E,F.
Also files in C drive where I have installed Windows-XP are of FAT-32 type whereas files in other 3 drives are of NTFS type.
Please suggest way to increase speed of my computer.

Scan for malware, viruses, and bootloaders. Malwarebytes is a good program.

Check if you have dirty drive. Open a cmd prompt and do fsutil dirty query x: where x: is your drive names.

After doing command fsutil dirty query x: in cmd I found that out of my 4 drives C,D,E and F ,drives D and E are dirty. So what should I do now?
I have kaspersky 2010 antivirus along with licence key for 1 year.

Now you want to do a chkdsk and repair which should resolve the issue. To do this simple do chkdsk d: /r and run through that and then do the same thing again except chkdsk e: /r
This will locate any bad sectors and try to recover any info it can. If all works good you should then do the fsutil in the post above and be sure you have no dirty drives. If after that it still does a chkdsk on each reboot, let us know.

I am doing chkdsk d: /r where d: is my dirty drive.# out of 5 stages are completed successfully. But for 4th stage completion is only 1%.Its not proceeding forward for long time.
Again I have to to chkdsk for e: drive 'chkdsk e: /r'.
So why 4th stage is not proceeding forward?
And also its not getting restarted after manually rebooting it.Monitor remains in ON position and CPU also remains in ON position but no progress shown on monitor after I manually give restart option.

Sorry I should of mentioned it the /r option has 5 stages. Stage 4 verified all clusters in use and 5 verifies unused clusters which can take hours.
Also what do you mean by
If you mean that the /r is the restart option it's not. Its the chkdsk repair. Basically you you're telling it to checkdisc d: /repair
EDIT: It's also not recommended to stop the chkdsk if you think it's become stuck. Give it some time, like I said it can take hours so you might have to be patient with it. If you stop it in the middle and it's still working properly you can mess up the drives integrity meaning you'll have to replace it sooner.

I've had check disk take HOURS on step five. Unfortunately there is no progress measurement.
I prefer to use check disk on a separate machine, by removing the primary drive & placing it onto a 2nd system over USB.

Can formatting C: drive where I have installed Windows-XP will solve the problem of dirty drives D and E?
Please reply soon.
BEcause chkdsk d: /r command is taking lots of time...

No it won't. You might be able to format D and E drives and it'll solve the problem for awhile. Formatting C though wouldn't do anything.

How long have you had these drives? Do you shut down the PC normally or is it powered off with the power button or being unplugged? Do you have adequate airflow through the PC? With 4 drives in there they're probably close together I'm guessing and heat could definitely cause a failure.

Hie,
There is another problem that I am facing from last week.It is when I manually restart PC,as per my knowledge what happens is CPU remains ON and monitor turns off momentarily and then again starts processing.
But what happening here is CPU remains ON and monitor turns off but then doesn't turn ON.And hence never gets restarted. Then what I do is I switch off button of CPU and switch it on again.
What is this problem? Is this O.S. problem?

If this is a new problem then you should start a new thread.
