Is this a good laptop for iPhone Dev?

Posted 05 February 2011 - 12:44 PM

I'm looking for a cheap way to legally make iPhone apps and I found an older MacBook that has a few issues but would generally serve my needs. Would you guys suggest it or is it too old to be developing on?

Here's the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/...=item2a0dc8349d

adgarci is right, you have to use XCode which only runs on Mac's. In other words you would have to have a MacBook, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iMac, Mac mini, or Mac Pro. If you don't want to buy a mac (which I recommend you do) check out hackintosh (just google it).

If I may ask, where did you learn to program for the iPhone, I've been trying to find somewhere I can learn it.

The laptop you posted would work, but I recommend at least 2GB of RAM, not all apple laptops let you upgrade this yourself. 2GHz is a little slow, but works fine for me.

Okay that is a decent laptop and I can clearly see you are looking for best price but the main problem is that you are going to have to invest in an installation disc.
You could technically buy just the disc and then download VMware player for free and run the OS from within your computer
I am not sure if this is allowed in some countries but I have heard of it and I know that it will handle UNIX so since the Mac OS is based off of unix then yes it should work
Check around with your countries laws and see if it is legal but if not I encourage you to buy the one on ebay
