Lucky charms...

Posted 07 February 2011 - 12:22 PM

(If you are here for discussions on breakfast cereals that is down the hallway, last door on the left.)

Do you carry any lucky objects to increase your favorable outcome's chance in this crazy world? Something to increase your moxie (this not this) or stabilize your normal space around you? Perhaps a trinket that helps you "write better code" or makes you focus a bit more?

Things such as: a lucky coin you keep in your pocket, a necklace, an earring, three backpack pin, bracelet, troll doll, white polar bear glaring at you from on your desk, or something a bit more activity based.

Superstitions are fun, lucky objects always have a great story, and I would like for people to share.

I'll go first. Usually on person: particular accessories and a lucky coin. In my car is a blessed (by a past arch-bishop) crucifix.

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

I don't really have any symbols that I feel bring me luck but I do some superstitious things every now and then. I guess in my head I know they don't affect the outcome of the situation but it makes me feel better.

The one thing I can think of right off the top of my head is that when I play poker I never touch the cards on the table until all cards have been dealt out. Someone told me it was bad luck once and for some reason I went along with it.

Oh pa-leeze. Totems, talismans, deities, spells, prayers, magic, luck, afterlife paradise...

All of that supernatural religious nonsense is the worst thing man every created. From the large (wars) to the small (I'm not responsible for my own future) it is the most harmful BS every created.

(Please note the racial reference and how everyone doesn't get their panties in a bunch over it.)

I wasn't too far off who would throw the first "luck is teh ghayest and is tots evil" comment out, but regardless superstitions are a good way to to know a person or group of people, and charms always have a good story. If you don't want to participate lore and legend then that's fine by me!

I heard supersloth's luck and skyhawk's love keeps the servers running at night.

Edit: And to love him, was to know him... Those who knew him, loved him, while those who did not know him, loved him from afar."

It's true. That's why they go down for a couple minutes every night around midnight....

I used to have a rabbits foot. It smelled funny. Now I just carry a gun as my good luck charm.

I don't think that counts as a "good luck charm". I think that's more of a "cover your ass charm", Chris.

I've been lucky so far :) Haven't had to use it. Hope I never do.
