An online compiler for C++/C#/Java/PHP etc

Posted 08 February 2011 - 03:32 PM

I found this site where you can code from an online browser.
Thought I'd share this with you guys.
What are your thoughts? Do any of you use this already?
Do you recommend it?
Here is the site http://compilr.com/

No real need to use an online compiler if you have the real compiler installed on your computer. Only way it is of any use is if you don't have access to a compiler (writing a program from work?). But the second thing is the online compilers just don't accept all code commands etc for security reasons. Half the time I can't use 3rd party libraries/dlls, execute certain commands etc.

They are ok to tinker with something basic and maybe test a function, but again if you can get a free compiler to install on the computer, not much need for an online one.

:)

It's certainly a novel thing. A flash in the pan.

It also might be nice to toss together a little example code for whatever reason, and you're not on your normal computer. And also good for when you give such code to others so they can see it work.

[edit]
it's PAY???

yeah, not novel enough. Especially considering that Visual Studio, Eclipse, and Mono Develop are all free to be had on Windows, OSX, and linux (well VS win only).

I'm not paying to use an online compiler when I can get the tools to compile pretty much all of those languages for free. Not even a chance.

I don't understand how that site makes any money at all?

"Hey, you know how great a tool Visual Studio is? Let's not use it, and do all our coding in our browser! And you know how Visual Studio Express is free? Let's PAY to do this online! All cons and no pros! Genius!"
