The trunk's too straight...
The trunk and branches are too thick..
The branches going straight out should have some sort of downward motion to them.

Over all it doesn't look... lightening-ie enough. I think something to do with the bottom part.

Use more references.

Also your sig is too big. 319x159 != 400x80.

Thanks for feedback, I will probably re-upload a new, more realistic version today. I was going for a mix between real lightning and this card. I used to play forever ago and always though it looked kinda cool.

Also, I fixed the sig to link to the original pic

Ah.. some sort of lightening strike or possibly a blast? Then your base needs some sort of strike point..

There's always this tutorial (or ones like it)

Side note: I liked the tutorial and might try some other stuff from that site. I do however, think that guy kinda cheated 'cuz I did mine with a pencil tool :pinch:

Yeah it's not a bad tutorial, and it provides a more "organic" looking lightning since the cloud option is a bit on the random side.

Not everything needs to be drawn by hand, and I think that guy is doing it as more of a graphic not hand done art. It would be the difference between my Skywhale's (on my website) clouds I drew up yesterday vs the cloud filter in photoshop.

Yhes.. attempt #2 is looking better... but drop off the branches going sideways and ending there. Also most lightning always is on a downward angle. Any that are moving horizontal or up would be odd to the eye.
