Anyone on chess?

Posted 11 March 2011 - 08:13 AM

Hi.
By deffinition, chess, as programming, is the "mind's game". So, i was wondering, are there any chess players on DIC? :)

Also, i didn't know how to make a poll, so i will ask it like this :P What's more nerdy (not geeky! :P ) Chess or Rubik's cube? (and by that i don't mean that players of X are nerds, i was just curious, i do them both anyway :)) )

I play chess.

And I really don't think chess vs. Rubik's cube is a fair comparison. One is a centuries-old strategy game, the other is a pop culture icon whose solution can be easily found through a quick Google search.

I used to play chess, kind of got bored of it in my teens after long drugged out binges of playing chess over and over. When you've played chess for lines, you've gone to far.

There are other table top strategy games I enjoy. Reversi and Risk for instance.

*sigh* I guess I will have to start it - Go is better. Older, more mental intensive, and not easily programmed into a computer.

I've only had the chance of playing Go once or twice, have always wanted to play it more, but I don't know anyone who plays it.

I actually was going to bring this game up, but because I've only had the chance of actually playing it once or twice, I didn't.

++ to you!

[edit]
how I first learned of Go, and the reason for the first couple and only times I played it... Sonic the Hedgehog 3 special zones...

Not to derail the topic, but oblige me for a moment. Go is pretty fun but f'n hard. The pattern of moves and what not are excruciating. There's a free online site I used to try and play with.. I am certain I was being schooled by ten year-olds. It hurt the ol' ego. Then I remembered a time when I was thirteen and whipped some forty year old's ass at a game of Warhammer 40k and the world righted itself.

We might need to spawn a new thread for Go if this goes too far. (heh - a pun like that is usually costly but this one is free!).

I don't know why, I could never get into playing table top games on the computer. I'd rather play there with the people.

Which is weird because I love videogames and play a whole ton of them.

It's like if it was designed for the table, I want to play it on a table. I can kick some ass in chess in person, on a computer I'm retarded... it's like the fact I can't pick them up, or see the depth of the board and pieces, my brain just shuts down.

Which site was this that you played Go?

I hear you on that LoD. When my buddies (oddly most jocks and meat heads in high school) were playing chess online with the PS2/3 they have a roll out mat and pieces on the floor. They'd circle it and have one person designated as the person to input their move and tell what the other person did. It helps quite a bit.

I have a Star Wars chess set my mother bought me for Christmas several years ago. I love it sooo much. But no one ever wants to play with me, either. Poor, little, unused, Star Wars chess set. :cry2:

I got a cardboard "arena" (how do you call it normally, anyway? :) ) that folds like a piece of pafer, or something, it's really nice, but i'm still thinking of a nice way to stick some kind of a bag to the "arena" so that i cand have the pieces and the "arena" (it's getting annoying :)) ) in the same object :P

I like chess but don't know a lot of people around here who also play it. Nonetheless, it is a great game (eh, playing with the computer most of the time).

I love chess :) This is an awesome site with some cool sets:

Nice!

I have a cool set that has glass pieces and a wooden box that flips to be a chess set or backgammon.
